The Antique Settle

This was part of a set of handpainted projects I did for a client in Stamford.

The client had this settle in their house for many years before they bought me in to update the piece. It was a gorgeous shape - large but elegant, very simple, very scandi, with signs of age that we wanted to work with and honour, rather than disguise.

The clients love the ghustavian palette I work with, which was going to lend itself perfectly to this piece. We share a passion for the Bloomsbury aesthetic which you can see reflected in the circular design and washy, fluid brush strokes. There’s a willow tree in their garden which we incorporated to add a touch of life. Dragonflies have a sentimental significance to the client and we included them dancing along the willow bows.

It has the same sensibility as the dining table and chairs for this client, but tells its own story.
